Hunter and Fox Tattoo has been on Botany Road for years, since 2011 in fact. It’s very well-regarded, and has five tattoo artists who cover a wide range of tattoo styles; ranging from Traditional American and Japanese to neo-traditional and modern. (They also provide lightening and laser removal.)
Because their studio is on the way to Green Square Station, we often pass it on the way to other Street View photography jobs. And our eyes are always drawn to the golden lettering on the windows and the interior walls covered with designs. So when we decided to challenge ourselves to see just how quickly we can put a small business on Google Maps and Street View, we picked Hunter and Fox Tattoo as the subject matter.
“Walk-Ins Welcome” says the hand-painted sign outside. So we did just that. A five minute chat with the team, (who needed a little convincing that we were honestly offering them a Street View virtual tour for free) and ten minutes to take an interior and exterior 360-degree photo, and we were done. We took a few minutes extra to demo the shots to the guys before packing up and heading back to the office for post-processing.
We shoot with an Insta360 Pro 2, a professional 360-degree camera that significantly exceeds the requirements of Google Street View Photography. It captures RAW and JPG, and supports exposure bracketing in batches for HDR photography – which we insist on using for all our shots.
One of the reasons professional Street View Photographers choose the Insta360 Pro 2 (the price tag tends to put off hobbyists and amateur photographers) is its ability to stitch a 360-degree HDR panorama in-camera. So technically, we could just upload what the camera produces automatically to Street View.
But while the stitched images you get out of this camera are pretty good, our unique post-production process makes them look even better. (We use five separate applications and a lot of manual effort.) So even though this was a speed challenge, we chose to maintain the high level of quality we bring to all our customers.
“WHILE THE STITCHED IMAGES YOU GET OUT OF THIS CAMERA ARE PRETTY GOOD, OUR UNIQUE POST-PRODUCTION PROCESS MAKES THEM LOOK EVEN BETTER“
So when we got back to the office, we took our time to get the images right. Just like we always do.
